The economy softens...

The article in Mondova i read that after so long the welfare in Florida and Nevada is growing after decades of decline. Big businesses are picking up now that the economy is going bad. It states that the economy is having difficult time finding jobs.

Here is a clip from teh article that i found interesting.

In 1996, 12 million people were signed up for welfare in the United States. After new rules were adopted to force recipients to find jobs, the number dropped to 3.9 million adults.

This clip really amused me. How extreme some people will go just to get money.I kno in the past year people has had to get either a second job or a job because the checks and welfare money they recieve isn't paying enough. I never thought i would have to live in a time to see this going outragous. Prices are going up on everything and the biggest concern of mine is what's going to happen to the ones who barely make enough to get by...and the prices of utilities and payments and bills and everything keeps rising. What is going to happen to those people? The ones with families to support, and i know are barely making it if not that in this year.

I just dont see or understand why everything has to go up. It doesn't make sense to me. And it makes me wonder if the prices will ever go back down or will they keep increasing? That scares the crap out of me.

We have tuition in colleges raising in all states. Does the government or who ever is in control of this think its helping the economy? To me, I dont think kids coming out of high school is going to only think one time they want to go to college, i believe its going to be a decision thats going to require much thinking. Because the prices are crazy. Here we are trying to become something and help the world and yet its like the world is pushing us back.

Child welfare changes in D.C

According to an article i read the Washington DC mayor is chanign the child welfare law after the police found 4 deaths of children. In the article it said that the child safety has moved up a level. I just wonder since we all know beatings and deaths of young children are happening if there is anything we could do to help. I mean we don't have to be social workers, counselors, police officers, or any kind of license person to help these little kids. I think we should start out in our home towns and get together to try to make the neighborhoods we live in a safer place for children. And let children always have some one to talk to when they know their being mistreated.

I just wonder what is it we could do? We could attract more crowds to a school function for little children and tehir parents to go to and have fun and enjoy themself. So atleast we know their at school with people around instead of being at their homes letting lord knows what in and going on.

It probably isn't making much sense but to me i think any idea could help. It breaks my heart hearing about all these kids dying. If its not from parent's it's from being left in cars thats too hot, or wrecks, or anything. This world has become very troublesome.

how did welfare begin?

The need for welfare was great in the 1930's during the Great Depression. Millions of people were thrown out of their jobs, left with no other options. High numbers of fathers left their families and fled to elsewhere, and left their family to survive by their own means.

Before the Great Depression, community charities helped the poor and needy, but the downfall of the economy hit everyone hard, and the people that helped the poor, now had a need to achieve their own survival. Schools began to close, families were left homeless, wandering the streets. The elderly suffered because they had no money to live on. While Franklin D. Roosevelt rushed to create more jobs, he also began to back an idea that would give aid to poor children and other dependent people. (According to www.library.thinkquest.org)

Just think.. all this began because of hte great depression. Now in todays world we have hit Recession close enough to depression just not as bad as some say. I wonder with the increase in gas and all prices and taxing going up if this could mean a change? I mean the great depression changed the world a lot. I'm just curious if this world is ready for another change?

Child Abuse

The state's top child welfare official said investigators found "historic physical injuries and fractures" among the children taken from the Fundamentalist LDS Church's ranch. (Yahoo news)

It also says that over 41 children had the same type of fractures found on them. I never realized how many kids are abused or mistreated each day. most of us believe we have such a hard life but think about these kids... it's horrible news. It's kind of like the saying you never know what you have till its gone.

In this situation that statement if very true. I know i have said this before but who really wants to harm a child? An adult who thinks its going to make tem feel better? Or they dont have nothing else to take their anger out on? That has to be one of the saddest things i have ever heard. How can one live with themself knowing they hurt a baby, or a child?

People really make me sick. When i get talking about kids and how they are mistreated that is something i can keep going on and on about. I mean i really thank God for Social Workers out there who try to go in and save the kids. Biggest part of the time i just always found them nosey and trying to destroy a family, but as i have grown to know better, i have realized the parents destroy the families.

In my field of education i decided to go into Elem. Ed... because i love being around children and hope to inspire them one day and be someone there to help them. but if i had a seond choice i would totally be a social worker and help the kids who really need reaching out for.

I thank God that we have people out there who do care. Those are the ones i truly look up to. Im glad there is a program out there to help these little kids, parents really need to grow up sometime. Maybe in time they'll get what they truly deserve.

animal welfare

I read this article the other day about cruelty to animals how people try to kill dogs and cats for FOOD. The kill animals for clothes. I think thats wrong. And im glad we have a welfare system for Animals to be protected by. But whose to say how successful this really is? It's suppose to stop the cruelty against animals but when you got to these big expensive places and there are these real fur coats how is welfare protecting the people from making the real fur coats?

I believe animal welfare only states a brief message what their trying to get across instead of really laying down the laws like they would a human being. Animals are just like people, they have feelings like us... and i am the type of person who could never harm a animal even if i would ever run over one, it would break my heart.

Rudd Hints at welfare means test

On Yahoo news The Federal Government is refusing to spell out whether it plans to bring in means tests for some welfare payments in this month's Budget.

Earlier today Prime Minister Kevin Rudd gave his strongest indication yet that he plans to bring in means tests.

Speaking on Fairfax Radio, he said his focus was on helping people on incomes of around $50,000 or $60,000 a year.

"They're the people who make up the vast majority of our country [and the people] we need to look after," he said.

"People way beyond that, once you get right up there, there's a whole question about whether you need support from Government."

Im not even sure if im taking this correctly but it makes me mad the way i am taking it. What does it mean WE NEED TO LOOK AFTER THE ONES WHO MAKE ALL THAT MONEY? And THEY NEED SUPPORT FROM THE GOVERMENT? To an extent i agree but what in this world... what about looking after the people who doesn't make that much income? What does is the world going to do about that? What i think is that we need a REAL president in office, one who is going to take a stand and one who knows what their doing and is going to make a change... for the better. Because the way life it right now it sucks!

Where was Bush when gas started going up? Or when people complained about the health care system? Or the budget cuts in education? And now the welfare to me is cheating out money!!! And why?! Is it the Governments fault? Maybe... But i personally blame it on the president... because he does have say in all this. And now the world is going t hrough recession while bush is in office... maybe its just about time we get a new one in office.. maybe thats the life saver we need. Will Barack Obama be a good candiate to help turn the country around and help the programs such as welfare? Heck no!

I think we mise well hand it on over to Hillary Clinton. I have watched her speeches and debates and you really can tell she means what she says. Shes not "BS*ing" anyone unlike OBAMA. We get a new president in office and well see how the welfare prgram and the health care system and educatoin turns around. I would bet money on it that this is the prayer were looking for.

The old/new system

On washingtonpost.com The old system was often criticized for granting benefits to people who didn't deserve them – and should instead have been working. But the new system creates the distinct possibility that people who do deserve assistance will be denied it. And because most public assistance goes to families, many of the victims would inevitably be children.

Standardization, for all its drawbacks, also ensured a certain kind of blind fairness. In the new system, there is so much discretion involved that civil-rights activists wonder whether minorities and people with drug problems will be dealt with fairly, and whether people with legitimate reasons for not being able to work will nevertheless be cut off from assistance.

I think the new system could be improving. Maybe just maybe their finally being strict on whose getting the money. But seriously, like the article states, people who do need the money are being denied unlike the old system the ones who didn't need it got it. The majority of money does go to people with children and if it was up to me i would give the biggest part to the children. I know that sounds bad but recently i learned about how kids go home on the weekends from school not having anything to eat, so the school started this program for every friday they fill up a backpack with little foods kids can eat. And stuff for them to do like coloring books and such.

Then again older people who cant afford much and are too weak to work. I know my papaw is 64 years old and he is a very weak man. It's been years since i seen him out working and doing anything because older people do get and stay sick a lot. Im not sure exactly how to get hte government to look more into that and there probably really isnt a way to get them too but to me i think if you get beyond a certain age and arent able to work that you should get money from welfare. i just think its fair and its helping the people in need.

Wefare No Longer Exists

According to an article in teh Washinton Post it states "Welfare as we knew it no longer exists."

The 61-year American tradition of guaranteeing cash assistance to the poor came to an end with the signing of legislation in August 1996.

Under the old system, founded during the Great Depression, the federal government provided fairly uniform benefits to the nation's poor – mostly mothers and children – without regard to the details of their personal circumstances, and with no time limit.

But over time, the system became increasingly unpopular. Political opinion turned against the idea of anyone getting rewarded for being idle. Social critics said welfare was responsible for a permanent underclass of people living off government checks because the incentives to go to work were so weak.

This is just like what i have commented in one of my earlier blogs. People are getting OUR money that we work for and earned basically free. I have a family member who gets a check each month and sits around on the couch and does absolutly nothing. She's no sick or unable to do anything.

To me she is just lazy and basically lives off the check she gets the first of every month. And not only that but getting so much a month and TRYING to make it last all month is obviously too hard for. Because in 3/4 days that check is long gone and she is bumming gas money off my dad. Not 'borrowing' but literally asking for it for her to have. And that is what gets under my skin when people who dont deserve welfare money can't even make it last long enough for them to have something that month... it's pathetic. It's actually more then i can say.

Groups to Mend Child Welfare

According to detnews.com the Michigan Department of Human Services and partner groups are setting up a yearlong task force of more than 70 people, at a state cost of about $300,000, to dramatically reform welfare programs for children.

It will focus on such goals as keeping families together, reducing cases of abuse or neglect and providing for more visits from human services workers.

I do think this could help the programs of children being neglect or abused. Especially for foster care for children. Children do need to be taken care of. I think that this a great idea to help children cause many children and neglected and abused or somehow mistreated everyday.

Welfare Fraud

BAINBRIDGE -- Susan A. Mister, 29, and Rose M. Mister, 50, both of Bainbridge, were charged Saturday by the Chenango County Sheriff's Department with fourth-degree welfare fraud and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, both felonies, after an investigation involving the Chenango County Department of Social Services Fraud Unit and sheriff's investigators.

Police said they fraudulently obtained $1,905 between April 2005 and last January by completing time sheets for child-care assistance and then turning them over to Chenango County for payment knowing they contained false information.

Wow...of all the people who could this money people have to lie about it? More like stealing it? What has happened to the world..? I would think the department of welfare would look more into people who signs up for this before given them money.

Homeless, Disabled could lose welfare

According to a post on yahoo news Utahs poorest of the poor is being target by the bureaucratic fix that requires them to enroll in a state health care plan or lose the 261.00 that they recieve each month from welfare. Why is it or why does it seem that since our country has hit recession, times just keep getting harder and harder? The poor citizens would be on the top of my list for the ones to recieve moeny frmo the government. Many have children to provide for and i believe that we should do whatever we can to take care of the children. Im not sure how enrolling in a health care plan can help the poor citizens. I think citizens should be offered having different choices to choose from but like i said they should be able to choose instead of forcing them into it saying they'll take the only money they get away from them unless they enroll in a plan.

Does some people take the easy way out?

What is Welfare? The welfare program is financial assistance paid by the tax payers to people who do not support them selves. Have you ever stopped to think how many people in today’s world that is on the welfare system that just seems to be lazy? I know there are the disabled, and the mentally challenged that cannot provide for them selves.

These people are the reason we pay taxes, to help and support these people. But I have noticed and been around people in my life that doesn’t seem to have a thing wrong with them except pure laziness.

We have those who are single mothers, or those without a diploma, or need children to be in day care. Most of these are on welfare instead of having specific social programs for them to sign up for and be helped. Most women, who just come out of school, single and have a baby winds up on welfare all the time. “Because she doesn’t have the money”. When yet people who actually need the money and cannot get out and are dying and are sick aren’t getting the most of the welfare as they deserve. For example unwed mothers CAN work. When most women know that if they are unwed and just had a baby and they know they can get on welfare with hands down, in my opinion I think some just become lazy because they can.

Also, there is some people here in the U.S who will use ever excuse for an illness to be put on welfare so they don't have to go out and get a job. Once again, it brings me back to the same point. People are just lazy. Im not saying everyone is lazy but knowing that you are able to work and you're taking away money that can help save people from being on the streets and dying, you should just be ashamed of yourself. I have learned that you can report these people as welfare fauds. And they are suppose to get prison time. But of my knowledge i haven't found anyone that's been reported to have turned anyone in.

I believe the government needs to take a stand and start investigating the people who try to pose frauds and get by with it. Why do i care? Because, i know people who are out on the streets or in nasty housing or people who are mentally and physically sick and can't do anything, and their not getting the money they deserve. Their barely getting by. In my opinion, i think it's wrong we have these people who are "not able" out here trying to get by with getting free money when they are more then capable of working and even gettin more money to support them selves. But their just so lazy and seem to want to be waited on hand and foot. I honestly feel sorry for these people. Because i think their such a disgrace.
